A renovation project located in Narikkunni, Calicut, Green Lea keeps in mind the emotional attachment that the client holds to the home and surroundings. Transforming the spaces based on the brief given through minimal structural intervention, we attempted to modify the house through a contemporary representation of traditionalism.

Shedding the impressions of the past, a clean aesthetic rooted in strong regional influences was created, taking into consideration the needs and lifestyle of the client as well.

Most of the older material ideas are retained and immense attention is paid to details like refining the existing stone cladding, textures, flooring and natural lighting to bring a sense of home into the design.

In addition, the teak wood, matte finished tiles, glass, custom-made lighting and furniture tie into the design scheme. However, the overall language is carefully thought out to ensure that none of these elements stands out and instead blends in harmoniously, creating a balanced and calm atmosphere.

The neutral palette of the interiors is reflected in the grey cladding, the earthy tones of the furniture, the browns of the wood and whites of the wall, all of which contribute to a soothing colour scheme that brightens the space, exploiting the most overlooked but luxurious resource in a home- light.

The sheer curtains also let in as much light as possible without compromising the privacy of the residents. Each piece of furniture is designed with thought and care, mindful of the ergonomic and functional roles that they have to fulfil and are arranged to produce cluster-free spaces.

The simplicity and elegance of the wood lend an ancestral appeal to the areas that is characteristic of old houses. Bringing in nature was of utmost importance; potted plants dot various areas of the house, softening the interior spaces further and creating a breathable and comfortable environment for the residents.
